Along the highway between Madurai and Kumily. There is quite a bit of elevation gain between dry plateau's of Tamil Nadu and the Mountains that define the Keralan border.

The main attraction in Kumily, the Periyar Tiger Preserve. Boats put around the lake scaring the animals away, good fun though.
The tigers were nowhere to be seen, which of course was what we expected. We made do with taking bird pictures.

Our hotel. Nice surroundings, crappy tourist food. Kumily seems to be all about providing minimal service for the buck.

Road to nowhere. Our trek was canceled due to a forest fire. We drove on some random roads checking out the sights.

It's very often that you'll see men and women doing heavy manual labor alongside each other. Here the men break the rocks, the women carry the rocks.
Carry a lot of rocks.

The drive from Kumily to the western coasts of Kerala. Hours of beautiful tea plantations. Wouldn't that be a great mountain bike path?
