Jain Festival at Sravanabelagola
This festival occurs once every 12 years. Up to 2 million Jain pilgrims come to the town of Sravanabelagola to perform the Mahamastakabisheka (head annointing) ceremony on the monolithic sculpture of Sri Gomatheswar. Carved out of a single granite stone on top of a hill, the 58' 8" figure is the largest freestanding sculpture in the world. It is over a thousand years old.
Jainism began around the same time as Buddhism and shares many similarities. One difference I find interesting is that once the sould achieves liberation it remains intact and individual.
